Tour Descriptions:

Authentic and historic adobe home. Ideal for your honeymoon, weekend get away or retreat. Complete with very private sun lounge featuring clawfoot bathtubs and dry/wet sauna.  Both, running hot and cold water. Perfect, no matter the season!  This historic and restored home has private views of horseshoe canyon and a prime view and access to the river. The property is eco-friendly and sustainable. Energy efficient appliances, on demand water heater, rain catches, composting, edible gardens are all part of this eco-friendly experience. The gardens are extensive and a true gardener’s delight. (If you garden, this truly is a must see.) Everything is historically restored, custom and or brand new.  Renters have unlimited access to shared covered outdoor seating - perfect for stargazing on our many cloudless nights. Hotdogs and marshmallows are a must for roasting at the  large firepit. Which offers views of river sunsets and the newly panted espalier fruit and nut orchard.  Please note: As this is a 500-year-old home, it is very close to authentic in some ways. Floors can be a bit uneven, staircase is very narrow. There are not “traditional” sofas, rather, there are bancos. All these authentic features go to make staying in this home a more genuine Southwest experience. Be sure to read the home manual when you arrive. The history of the house is a fascinating read.  Disclaimer: This space is NOT for those with limited mobility or for children under the age of 8. We do have steps, a narrow ladder to the loft bedroom and historically accurate floors. Please - contact me at your convenience if you have any questions or concerns about your potential stay. I’m always happy to help.  One of the best parts? Private river beach access. The river is just a few short steps away from this home. The river front and beach are private and as our renter, you do not have to share it with others who float the river.  Please text me upon your arrival at the given number to assure your successful self-check in.  Also for any questions you may have.  Pilar is a tiny, quiet riverfront village 22 minutes and 15 miles south of Taos. From spring to fall it is quite lively, as we are close to the intersection of Kit Carson National Forest and the Santa Fe National Forest. We are also at the epicenter of the Rio Grande Gorge and the Rio Grande River.   This area is where all the rafting companies put in, going from a class 1 to a 5 within a few miles. We are also close to eight ski resorts within a one-hour drive from the location.  When walking the riverfront you will see metal art, tiny houses, wine vineyards and many recreating visitors. Plus tons of wildlife, some small agriculture and many nice vehicles.  Having a vehicle is a must, one with four wheel drive is preferable but not required to access property. Although it does add a huge plus to your outdoor experience in this area. As our canyon has a back entrance that consists of epic plateau switch backs that are thrilling to drive and lead to thermal hot springs.    There is shuttling available for river running, and many opportunities for biking, running, hiking and cruising.  In front of the Yacht club is a public bus that runs to Taos and down to Santa Fe. Plus a airport bus shuttle bus through Taos Ski Valley.   Disclaimer: This space is NOT for those with limited mobility or for children under the age of 4. We do have steps, a narrow ladder to the loft bedroom and historically accurate floors. Please - contact me at your convenience if you have any questions or concerns about your potential stay. I’m always happy to help.   Although this space comfortably will sleep three. It does have extra room for sleeping pads and additional adult travelers.  Bring beach stuff, you'll be happy you did.   We are high altitude with  good amount of sun exposure here so be mindful of skin and eye care. New Mexico is dry most of the time, except during monsoon season (July).  Also this is a multi building property and I alone live onsite. Sometimes I am home and sometimes I am not. However you can always expect a private experience.
